avast! Lotus Domino provides optimum protection for Lotus Domino Servers running on Windows.
The product works as an extension of Avast Server Edition. It uses the same powerful, award winning system certified by ICSA laboratories as the server edition providing maximum protection.
Real-time Mail Scanning
The primary goal of avast! Domino Server Edition is to effectively filter all email traffic on the Domino server. It is well known that email is the no. 1 source of viruses. An antivirus system deployed on mail servers (or mail gateways) is therefore necessary. Our solution for Domino uses very little memory and boasts an excellent performance and robustness. Scanning takes place directly inside a Domino server task process by providing close integration with the mail router and the Domino server itself.
Real-time Database Scanning
As well as email filtering, avast! Lotus Domino Edition can also scan selected NSF databases in real-time. It monitors each database for changes. When a change occurs it triggers a scan of new or edited entries. This can be very useful, particulary for databases which are used to hold binary files.
On-demand Database scanning
It can also be useful to perform a full scan of all (or some) of the databases stored on the server. It is possible to scan Lotus Domino databases on request in an organised way. Avast!'s system treats .NSF files (Lotus notes/Domino databases) as a special type of file. This means that NSF file scanning can take place in any avast! server edition scanning task. This scan can be organised locally or centrally from the ADNM.
Attachment Blocking
avast! Lotus Domino Edition also contains a simple attachment blocker. You can choose filters for file extensions and file names (such as *.pif or Love*.vbs) for attachments on all inbound and outbound messages. This is a very simple yet extremely powerful way of effectively fighting against both known and unknown malware.
Alerting & logging
It is very important to have effective ways of monitoring antivirus software's work. The antivirus software's performance can be analysed and monitored using e-mail notifications and avast's built in notification manager (which supports a number of other e-mail protocoles). E-mail notifications are intelligent with predefined limits (to avoid innundating the server with avast's own messages). Messages are only sent to senders of infected mail.
Automatic updates *
Lotus Domino Edition uses the same updating modules as avast! server edition resulting in incomparable updating speed and size. Updates can be installed automatically by the operating system or manually. It is also possible to set the system up so that the operating system asks the administrator before installing any updates.
