Real-time HTTP Scanning
avast! ISA Server Edition's most important function is real-time scanning of all HTTP traffic. With the explosion of free webmails and other dangerous online content, HTTP scanning is becoming a real necessity. Avast! closely integrates with the ISA server in order to detect and remove viruses from all www pages/downloads. It does not matter how a client downloaded an infected program - be it using IE or any other browser, 3rd party download tool or in any other way - you can be confident that it will be properly screened and removed before it reaches the user. Scanning is not just limited to programs - scripts, ActiveX objects and any other potentially dangerous objects are also monitored.
Special care has been taken to correctly handle even very large downloads (a typical problem of gateway-based AV solutions). avast! makes sure that scanning is performed properly whilst making sure that client programs do not time-out when waiting for a response from the proxy.
Real-time FTP Scanning
Avast! is also able to filter FTP traffic.
FTP is still an important protocol for file transfers (i.e. downloads) and therefore requires almost as much attention as HTTP scanning. Thanks to the design of the CERN Proxy protocol (also known as the HTTP proxy protocol), avast! is able to handle all FTP traffic using its HTTP filtering module.
Advanced configuration
Avast ISA Server Edition is easily deployable and works perfectly on even the largest datacenter servers and cluster servers.
The scanning engine was designed with two basic goals in mind: performance and stability.
It can use multiple CPUs, fully leveraging the potential of today's advanced server hardware. It can also carry out memory scanning (including decompressing files/zipped files), resulting in unrivaled scanning speed and robustness.
URL Blocking
Avast ISA Server Edition also contains a simple URL blocker.
You can choose to block access to URLs (such as http://www.penthouse.com/* or *xxx*). This is a very simple yet extremely powerful way to prevent certain sites from being visited from within the workplace.
Alerting & logging
As with any server-side software, it is very important to provide effective means of monitoring.
Avast! offers a wide range of monitoring possibilities. These include notifications via e-mail and avast's built-in Notification Manager (which supports a number of other transport protocols), rich logging features, and performance counters.
Automatic updates
The ISA Server Edition uses the same updating modules as avast! Server Edition itself, resulting in unparalleled updating speeds and sizes.
Updates can be installed automatically by the operating system, or manually. It is also possible to set the system up so that the operating system first asks the administrator - before installing any updates.
